Tasting Notes:

97 points Int’l Wine Review

The 1998 Dom Pérignon is absolutely sensational at this stage in development. It was a marvelous surprise to see how balanced and seductive this wine is today. Showing a slightly lower viscosity than the ’98, the ’96 Dom Pérignon greets you with a wonderfully nutty and musty bouquet, followed by great tension and linear progression on the mid-palate. The delightful sense of freshness complements the nutty, wild mushroom, peat moss and orchard fruit flavors. This combines to impress with its beautiful saline streak that runs through the exceedingly long finish. While simply striking now, this still has plenty to offer and should continue to drink beautifully for at least another decade, and quite possibly even longer. (OB)  (7/2019)

97 points Int’l Wine Cellar

The 1998 Dom Pérignon has an intense white-golden color and is beautifully clear and fine on the nose, which indicates a lovely maturity and displays grey bread, almond cake and iodine flavors, along with lemon and orange aromas. This clarity and mineral freshness proceeds on the highly elegant, finesse-full and silky textured palate, and the complexly flavored, very distinguished finish is dry and mineral, revealing a stimulating salinity and tension. The 1998 seems young still, but is certainly a great pleasure to drink and will be for many years. (SR)  (6/2016)

95 points Wine Enthusiast

This is a wine that thrives on tension between its structure, opulence, elegance and poise. It is certainly ripe and opulent, but it is so well balanced and layered with acidity, and flavors of almonds, orange peel and kiwi fruits. It will certainly age. (RV)  (11/2006)

94 points Burghound

An elegant but austere wine that is almost as reticent as the ’96 with pure citrus and floral aromas that continue onto the crisp and still very tight medium-bodied flavors that are beautifully precise and impressively delineated on the gorgeously long finish.  (10/2007)
