Cult Wines International Notes:
The 1983 Château Meyney is a compelling example of a mature Saint-Estèphe from a classic, long-lived Bordeaux vintage that often produced structured and enduring wines. Unlike the opulent 1982s, the 1983 vintage in Saint-Estèphe yielded wines with great firmness, perfectly suited to Meyney’s inherently robust and powerful style. Predominantly a Cabernet Sauvignon blend, this wine is known for its deep, imposing character, having aged beautifully to reveal complex tertiary notes. The mature expression offers a classic Left Bank profile of savory leather, cigar box, and damp earth, underpinned by the core fruit of blackcurrant and dark plum. The tannins, while softened and well-resolved after decades in the bottle, maintain their structural presence, providing the backbone for a long, firm finish, making this a quintessential example of age-worthy, classically austere Saint-Estèphe.
