Tasting Notes:

93 points John Gilman

The 1978 vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon from Jordan Vineyards is one of my favorite from the estate. Its Sonoma County origins are very apparent in its more “weedy” aromatic profile, but this is simply its personality trait and is most assuredly not a demerit in my book! I had not drunk a bottle of the ’78 Jordan in more than four years and was happy to see it showing beautifully and continuing to cruise along as if time is not going to touch it for decades to come. The bouquet is deep, complex and quite refined, offering up notes of cherries, chipotle peppers, weedy Sonoma overtones, a lovely base of soil, tobacco leaf and a dollop of petroleum jelly in the upper register. On the palate the wine is complex, full-bodied and still shows off marvelous mid-palate depth, with fine focus and grip, melted tannins and a long, impeccably balanced and vibrant finish. This remains at the peak of its powers and it is clear that my last note, underrated the wine just a tad!  (9/2021)

Wine Spectator

Smooth, supple and polished, with spicy black cherry, tea, herb, tar and cedary notes, this has held up well and shows no signs of deteriorating. (JL)  (11/1998)
